About Courtney

Courtney is a Philly native who relocated to South Carolina a few months before the COVID pandemic shut down the world! Her nursing roots and interests in geriatrics, prevention, and advocacy stem from caring for her grandmother with Alzheimer’s Disease as a teenager. After graduating from Drexel University as a Registered Nurse, Courtney worked in home care with children and seniors, sub-acute and long-term rehabilitation, and other community-based jobs, including Dunkin Donuts Community Cruiser and a Bike Courier for Door Dash and Caviar in Philly and Brooklyn! Courtney was also part of the Magnet® recognition team while working at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia/Willowcrest and supported the organization in receiving this prestigious award in 2019 (about eight percent of hospitals attain Magnet status)!

Throughout COVID, Courtney served as a Nurse Manager at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) walk-in clinic located in Columbia, SC. She transitioned to and continues to serve as a CPR BLS instructor, a Diabetes Nurse Educator, and a Community Nurse Educator. Meanwhile, Courtney completed her Master’s Degree in Nursing with a concentration in Public Health, solidifying her aspiration of becoming a Public Health Nurse. As a Diabetes Nurse Educator for the past 3 years, Courtney created the FQHC’s Diabetes Education Program, coordinated multiple trainings for providers/clinical staff, as well as represented the organization at various community and professional events. As part of the organization’s Virtual Diabetes Program, she works with a dedicated team to provide high-quality care to hundreds of people with uncontrolled diabetes. Courtney is also the Quality Coordinator, leading the ADCES accreditation process for the FQHC’s Diabetes Education Program.

Most recently, she joined the Columbia Urban League of Young Professionals as the Community Service Chair and plans to obtain additional specialty certifications. Courtney enjoys spending time outside, dancing, gardening, community service, health fair/event planning, as well as researching public health and holistic topics! With 10 years of nursing experience and 8 years of leadership experience, Courtney remains more passionate than ever about holistic disease prevention and looks forward to further spreading her evidence-based mantra that, “Prevention is Possible”!

To honor National Diabetes Day, SCETV highlighted diabetes in South Carolina with A Touch of Sugar which focuses on diabetes, telling the stories of five patients whose struggles and successes put a human face on the issue.

Courtney’s work as a Diabetes Nurse Educator and commentary were featured in the episode and at the live Palmetto Perspectives taping.

Local experts, community leaders and online audience members gathered for a special taping of Palmetto Perspectives titled, "The Diabetes Epidemic” to discuss challenges and solutions related to diabetes.
